Yes, you can sell a house in Victoria in winter, and for some sellers it's the better choice. Mitch & Meghan, part of the Scrimgeour Group with eXp Realty, hear this question every fall from families in Lakebridge, Watermark and across Victoria who don't want to wait for spring. Here's what the numbers show and how we'd handle it.
Do homes sell in winter in Minnesota?
Yes, homes sell every month of the winter in the Twin Cities. In January 2026, 2,053 homes closed across the Twin Cities region, compared with 5,668 in June 2026. Fewer homes change hands, but the buyers still looking in January usually have a real reason to move, like a new job, a lease ending or a growing family.
Will I get less for my house if I sell in winter?
You may get a little less in winter, based on Twin Cities averages. Homes sold for 96.8% of original list price in December 2025 and January 2026, compared with 99.7% in May 2026. On a $600,000 Victoria home, that gap would be about $17,400, so pricing it right from day one matters more.
How long does it take to sell a house in winter in Minnesota?
Homes take longer to sell in winter across the Twin Cities. Days on market until sale averaged 64 in January 2026 and 69 in February 2026, compared with 41 in July 2026. Our own listings from January 2025 through October 2026 sold in a median of 11.5 days. Price and prep still decide most of that timeline, in any season.
Is there less competition when you sell in winter?
Yes, fewer homes are for sale in winter, so yours has less competition. The Twin Cities region had 8,131 homes for sale in December 2025, compared with 12,411 in September 2026. New listings dropped to 2,593 in December 2025. In Victoria neighborhoods like Lakebridge or Deer Run, your home may be one of only a few choices a buyer sees.
What should I do differently to sell my house in winter?
Price it right the first week, keep the driveway and walks cleared, and make the house feel warm and bright. Winter days are short, so turn on every light for showings and take listing photos midday. If you have good photos of your yard from summer, share them with your agent, since buyers can't see the lot under the snow.
Is winter a good time to sell if I'm buying my next home too?
Winter can work well if you're selling and buying, since you'll shop when fewer buyers are competing for the next house. If you go under contract in early November and close in January with a loan, your first mortgage payment on the new home isn't due until early March. Our moving up or downsizing page explains how we plan both moves.
Should I wait until spring to sell my house in Victoria?
Wait for spring if your house shows best with green grass, open water or a big backyard, and you don't need to move soon. Sell this winter if a job, a new home or family plans have a date attached. Mitch can show you how homes like yours sold this past winter compared with spring before you choose.
